Allow Your Pain to Direct Your Mind

The title of this blog might seem antithetical to all that Living the Guided Life, Out of the Matrix or A Course In Miracles are about.  My book, Out of the Matrix and ACIM would advertise themselves as purveyors of peace not pain.  Read my book and follow its prescription and you will live a more peaceful life, is exactly how I would promote Living the Guided Life.  Out of the Matrix will tell you that if you follow its path you will reduce the intensity, length and frequency of your upsets.  Naturally this would lead to a more peaceful life.  ACIM is also a paradigm shifting mind training designed to help you have a more peaceful mind.
Let's see what specifics we can find in each of these purveyors of peace that would have you believe that my blog title is misdirected.  How bout some quotes:
Living the Guided Life -

Your Inner Guide’s purpose is your well being, happiness and Peace of mind.  It’s guidance revolves around whether an idea will bring you greater peace.  Being pure peace and unconditional love your Inner Guide is an expert in this area.
Out of the Matrix -
The evidence that your purpose is aligned with your Inner Guide's purpose shows up as peace of mind.
ACIM -
The only way to have peace is to teach peace.  By teaching peace you must learn it yourself, because you cannot teach what you still dissociate.
Enough already.  As you can see the programs that I love, teach and live seem to counter the the idea that you should allow pain to direct your mind.  I am certainly not positing the idea that you should allow emotional pain to dominate your thinking or even your life.  But, there is a metaphysical adage that is apt here: What you resist will persist!!  If you resist your emotional pain it will persist.  By the way denial is a form of resistance in this sense.
If you have a pain in your knee you work to get rid of that pain.  If it persists after a some ice and Ibuprofen you may seek a doctors help.  If Ice, ibuprofen and physical therapy don't resolve the pain you may need surgery.  But, if you ignore the pain, deny its presence, you will soon have pain in the opposite hip because you have adjusted your gait due to knee pain and messed up your hip.  Not addressing that pain will cause varying other painful effects in your body.
The longer you ignore it the more pervasive and damaging its affects will be.
The same goes for the mind.  If you deny (resist) your emotional pain it will begin to have varying negative affects on your mind.  The longer you ignore it the more pervasive and damaging its affects will be.   Therefore just as you pay attention to physical pain and let it lead you to healing, as the blog title suggests, allow your emotional pain to signal your mind  that something is wrong and needs to be addressed.  This is in fact one of the only ways to get rid of your emotional pain, address it and release it.
Funny thing is that as you release that emotional pain your mind becomes more Peaceful!!  In fact Living the Guided Life, Out of the Matrix and A Course In Miracles offer the very same formula for attaining Inner Peace, a Peaceful Mind.  They all encourage you to examine your emotional pain, realize that it simply exists in your thoughts and that those thoughts can be shifted to peaceful ones.  As you work this process you will have less and less pain in your mind and you begin to be directed more and more by the peace that is your Inner Guide.

Inner Guidance or fear, who will direct your life?

We all allow fear to direct our lives.  On the surface this looks a like a reasonable way to approach life. I use fear to keep me safe.  I am afraid of getting hit by a car so I don't step off the curb and into traffic.  I choose not to touch the hot stove because I am afraid of getting burned.  Though in the end these are just common sense decisions that need not be framed around being afraid of anything.
Problem is when we are afraid to take a chance on a relationship or a job possibility because we are afraid it will fail.  Or the myriad other possibilities that we choose not to take advantage of because of  fear.  Most people have no idea how many of their daily decisions are directed by fear.  Many people believe that a healthy dose of fear will help to keep you safe in this world.  This concept is fine and dandy if you want to spend your life deciding who to talk to, what to do, how to do it and where to go based on fear.

Fear will tell you what to avoid because it is not safe.  That is the nature of fear.  It directs you with worry, anxiety, dread and insecurity because that is what it is.  Fear is designed to keep you afraid and it does this insidiously by making you believe it is keeping you safe.
Your Inner Guide is Unconditional Love and Peace.  Once you begin to understand  this alternative source of information, you start to question your allegiance to fear.  Your Inner Guide is unconditionally loving and peaceful and is designed to help you feel loving and peaceful.
Of course you always have a choice.  But, if you really understood the options could you honestly choose fear over your Inner Guide?
